5 Mistakes You Are Making With Your Website

As a Web designer, these are the common types of mistakes I see with most people’s websites. They are easy fixes and can really grow your business by changing them and getting it done right.

1. ASKING PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR A NEWSLETTER WITHOUT AN INCENTIVE.

Ladies, I’m not going to lie! I love things like, get updates, join a sisterhood, be my friend, let’s get to know one another.

But no one wants updates, they want free items.

  • If you have a storefront, easy 10% off something – boom.
  • If you make products like affirmation cards, give 10 away free – boom
  • If you sell a service give a free webinar of half an hour explaining what you do etc.

It doesn’t have to be a lot but it does have to be valuable and that is all that matters.

2. IF YOU SELL PRODUCTS? WHY AREN’T THEY ON THE HOMEPAGE?

SAY IT LOUDER IN THE BACK….

People need easy, and if they can’t find your products on the first page, it’s no longer easy!

I’d say (and I’ve heard a lot of people say it) ever since tiktok the attention span has gone WAY DOWN….

We are in a huge instant-access lifestyle and if people aren’t quickly seeing things, they roll away and on to the next one.

3. NOT SHOWING YOUR TESTIMONIALS

They need to be everywhere, babe! You need to show those five stars, show those kind words, and promote the heck out of them. – But don’t just make a fancy graphic with them and put them on social media, nope I got something better for that…

People want to connect and know that you are who you say you are. Ask your reviewers if they would mind allowing you to use their image, give proof of the people they are!

Personally, I consider mine a badge of honour! I love having the kind words and love pushing them on other pages so people can see them.

4. SOCIAL ICONS ON THE TOP

A common question asked is why would I suggest this, why do I HIGHLY recommend against having them up top? Because, we do all our hard work, posting on social media, sharing links DRAGGING them to the website, just for them to go “Ooh she has pinterest…” then get lost down the rabbit hole of Pinterest for 6 hours, go to dinner and leave your site for good.

Not helpful at all, and probably didn’t land you any good looks. So I recommend putting them on the footer, available, but they are going to need to work for that one if they want to see your socials.

5. NOT MAKING BEAUTIFUL HEADERS FOR EACH SECTION

I love bold, beautiful and pretty things. I like things divided in sections, I like space to read things. But that is just me.

But you want to catch the attention of someone on your website. You want it to attract your ideal clients and you want them to be like… “WOW, this really resonates with me, she is awesome.” and so on.

So what did you think of my tips? Have I sold you on some changes that need to be done to your special place? Easy fixes are something anyone can do if you were taught how to do them.
